Step 1

Warm to room temperature

1

Warm to room temperature

Allow your agar and liquid culture to reach room temperature.

Step Materials

This is the list of materials needed for this step.

Instructions

Warm Contents to Room Temperature

Before the process can begin, grab your agar-filled Petri dishes and liquid culture syringe and set them somewhere to warm them to room temperature. Allowing the liquid culture to warm to room temperature is needed for:

  • Better Flow: You can inject warm water more efficiently, and it will distribute itself better.
  • Reduced Thermal Shock: Injecting a cold culture into a warm substrate can cause shock, slowing growth.
  • Faster Colonization: Most mycelium grow well between 70-75°F. If the temperature is lower than this, it can take much longer for the mycelium to spread through a substrate.

Avoid Direct Heat

Do not use direct heat to warm the liquid culture, as this can easily harm the mycelium. Instead, simply lay the liquid culture and agar out at room temperature.
